LEICESTER are planning for their season to go out with a big BANG on Monday night.

They are celebrating TRIPLE anniversaries for the crunch clash with Somerset.

The club are commemorating the birth of speedway in the city on September 6, 1928.

Then came the post-war period and the launch of the Leicester Hunters in 1948 and lastly, after a break, speedway returned with the birth of the Lions in 1968.

There will be legendary Lions of past and present attending plus a special firework display - plus a host of other attractions.

Not forgetting, of course, Leicester’s clash with Premiership title chasers the Rebels and defending world champion Jason Doyle on the track.

Team boss Simon Stead said: “It’s a big night for the club. We are steeped in history right from the birth of the sport in this country in 1928.

“It seems appropriate that the current world champion Doyley will be on track for this occasion.

“We intend to go out with a bang on and off track. A win over the Rebels and then fireworks. That’s the target.”
