SUPER SUNDAY COUNTDOWN

Thursday August 01, 2019
LEICESTER are building up to a Super Sunday of action as the race for honours in both the Championship and the National League intensifies.

The Watling JCB Lions host Sheffield at 4pm on August 4 in a vital match for both sides, and that’s followed by the Roger Webster Lion Cubs taking on Stoke with a place in the KO Cup Final at stake.

Lions were knocked off the top of the league table by Glasgow on Wednesday when the Tigers won at Somerset – a result which was also a boost to Sheffield’s top four hopes.

The Owlerton side will arrive needing away wins in order to keep their chances alive, and both teams have made changes ahead of the encounter with Ty Proctor immediately snapped up by the Lions after losing his place with the Yorkshire club – who have signed Todd Kurtz and Justin Sedgmen.

When the teams last met in early June it was Sheffield who edged a thriller 46-44 on their home track with former Lions skipper Danny King winning the vital Heat 15 – and the Easter clash in the Championship Shield at the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena was hugely eventful with the Lions prevailing 47-41 to secure victory in the group.

Meanwhile the Lion Cubs will complete a busy weekend by hosting the Potters, with the first leg of the KO Cup semi-final taking place at Loomer Road on Saturday.

It all adds up to a bumper 30-heat schedule on Sunday afternoon, starting at 4pm, with admission prices set at just £20 for adults and £17 for concessions, whilst children go free as always.

Lions boss Stewart Dickson said: “We’re now into August and this is the business time of the season where every team is trying to make those top four places to get into the play-offs.

“We need to keep things going at home and there’s no doubt Sheffield will give us a test because they have their own play-off hopes to maintain.

“With the Cubs in action as well it should be a great day of racing and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone here to support both Leicester teams.”
