LEICESTER’S revamped track surface has won rave reviews after bikes returned to Beaumont Park at the weekend.

Extensive winter work, including a motorway blade scraping the circuit, took place at the Paul Chapman and Sons Arena for the new season which is yet to start.

But the club have started their private practice sessions with all safety measures in place including social distancing measures in the pits area.

Danny King, 2016 British Champion and former Watling JCB Lions racer, said: “They’ve done a great job, it’s so smooth but easy to ride.

“I was there on Sunday and it was really wet to start with but when the top surface started moving it was a pleasure to ride.

“It’s given me the bug back, I want to go racing and fingers crossed we can get a league going in August for a few months.

“I congratulate the Leicester management for the work they have done along with their track staff volunteers and I look forward to having another practice there at some stage.”

Watling JCB Lions co-promoter Stewart Dickson said: “It’s so good to get all the feedback we are getting, every rider whatever level they are at has said how good the track has been.

“It’s how it was when some of our riders managed to practice before the lockdown in March. We just need to get some competitive meetings on it now.”
