LEICESTER suffered a disappointing 55-35 defeat in their first Championship away match of the season at Scunthorpe.

On a sad day for the sport, the Watling JCB Lions saw their impressive recent record at the Eddie Wright Raceway come to an end, at the hands of a home side inspired by former Leicester man Ryan Douglas.

The Lions return to action with Saturday’s high-profile home clash with title favourites Poole at the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena (7pm).

The club will be paying tribute at that meeting to hugely respected writer and broadcaster Nigel Pearson, who sadly passed away on Friday.

SCUNTHORPE 55: Ryan Douglas 14, Jordan Palin 9+1, Tero Aarnio 8+1, Zaine Kennedy 7+1, Ryan Kinsley 7, Jake Allen 5+3, Simon Lambert 5+2
LEICESTER 35: Kyle Howarth 9+1, Nick Morris 7, Connor Mountain 6+1, Anders Rowe 5, Richie Worrall 4, Dan Thompson 3, Joe Thompson 1+1
Championship points: Scunthorpe 3 Leicester 0
