SHEFFIELD V LIONS, PREVIEW

LEICESTER are back on the road on Thursday in search of more Sports Insure Premiership points as they visit Sheffield.

The Watling JCB Lions collected a very useful result at Wolverhampton on Monday with a 45-45 ‘draw’ in the regular 15 races, and although they lost the subsequent Super Heat in cruel circumstances it still enabled them to take two league points overall, including the aggregate.

And that was an important outcome given that Ipswich maintained their current run of form by winning at Peterborough.

The Witches have raced more matches than their rivals but are hoping for slip-ups from either Leicester, Wolverhampton or Sheffield, with Belle Vue already confirmed as play-off qualifiers.

Lions enjoyed one of their best results of the season when they won at Owlerton earlier in the summer, although the teams have changed significantly since that time.

Recent Sheffield signing Tai Woffinden makes his home debut after replacing the injured Jack Holder, whilst Richie Worrall and Craig Cook have come in for the Lions.

Both teams make changes in the Rising Star berths due to Friday’s SON2 competition in Latvia, in which both the Lions’ Drew Kemp and Sheffield’s Dan Gilkes are representing Great Britain.

Jason Edwards comes in to guest for the Lions whilst the Tigers bring in Ace Pijper.

Leicester boss Stewart Dickson said: “I felt we gave Wolverhampton a good go on Monday, and on another night we could have won it – although when I saw the crash, I was more relieved to see Max (Fricke) walk away rather than the actual result.

“We go on to Sheffield now and this is the first of the Round 2 matches against them, and it’s a case of doing as well as we can.

“Whether we can win again is open for debate, but we’ll certainly be going there in a confident mood.”

SHEFFIELD: Tobiasz Musielak, Kyle Howarth, Adam Ellis, Josh Pickering, Tai Woffinden, Lewis Kerr, Ace Pijper.
LEICESTER: Max Fricke, Justin Sedgmen, Richie Worrall, Craig Cook, Richard Lawson, Jake Allen, Jason Edwards.
