LEICESTER Lion Cubs take centre stage this Sunday (3pm) as they look to extend their perfect start to the WSRA National Development League campaign.
The Lion Cubs host Belle Vue with three wins out of three so far in 2024, and victory against the Colts would be worth three points as they would also take aggregate victory, having been successful 49-38 at the National Speedway Stadium on Good Friday.
Both sides suffered a host of first-day problems in that meeting, and whilst the Colts have not raced since then, they once again track a side largely based around improving youngsters.
Captain Freddy Hodder has secured a team place in the Championship for the first time this year, whilst more than a matter of side interest is the fact that the Colts’ No.1 is Sam Hagon, who has just joined the Watling JCB Lions as a Rising Star in the Premiership.
Lion Cubs boss Dave Howard names an unchanged, full-strength side for what will be the final meeting before averages change, which will almost certainly necessitate alterations to the riding order from next week.
Howard said: “All of the team have performed very well so far, and they all have the confidence to push in every race.
“With the NDL this season just being decided from the regular season ten meetings, we need to keep our strong home record going, and it will be a challenge again as the Colts will be giving their all.”
An added bonus for supporters on the day is six extra races to enjoy after the NDL clash with another fixture in the Midland Development League, as Leicester take on the Birmingham Bulls.
Gates open at 1.30pm with a reminder that Lions season ticket holders can gain entry for just £6. Regular prices are adults £14, concessions £12 and children aged 6-17 £1.
And for those who cannot make it on the day, the meeting will be live streamed on Lions TV with passes available from https://www.leicesterlionstv.com/ .
