KEMP SET FOR BRITISH FINAL

DREW Kemp will represent Leicester in Monday’s Attis Insurance British Final at Belle Vue after their other two qualifiers were ruled out by injury.

Kemp booked his place in the Manchester showpiece with his impressive second place in the recent semi-final at the Hydroscand Arena, Beaumont Park.

He was due to be joined at the National Speedway Stadium by Dan Gilkes and Kyle Howarth, but neither are able to take their place.

Gilkes is awaiting the results of an MRI scan after his crash at Poole last Wednesday, and the Watling JCB Lions expect to know more by midweek. They have a guest on standby for the home clash with King’s Lynn on Thursday.

Meanwhile Howarth was signed out for five days with a shoulder injury after a fall at Glasgow on Friday, which also caused him to miss the Tigers’ trip to Plymouth the following evening.

That also rules him out of the British Final, with former Lion Cubs racer Vinnie Foord coming in to replace him, but although the shoulder is not expected to present any long-term issues, Howarth is now suffering from a chest infection and a decision will be taken on that later in the week.

Kemp will be making his third British Final appearance with his best result so far being seventh pace in the behind-closed-doors ‘Covid Final’ of 2020.
