LEICESTER captain Max Fricke says his side will be ready for their biggest challenge yet in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership Grand Final.
Fricke leads the Watling JCB Lions in next week’s title decider against Ipswich, having pulled off the winning ride in the epic semi-final victory over Sheffield last week.
The Lions went on to compete their regular league campaign with a win at Oxford last Thursday, and it’s now a blank week team-wise although riders will not go into the crucial contests short on bike time.
Fricke himself has just finished his campaign in Poland whilst the likes of Sam Masters, Kyle Howarth and Drew Kemp have all been racing in Championship fixtures.
Ipswich qualified for the Grand Final much earlier this month with a semi-final win over Belle Vue, and their final league result was a hefty 57-33 defeat at Sheffield last Thursday – but very little should be read into that result.
The first leg of the Grand Final takes place at the Hydroscand Arena, Beaumont Park next Monday (October 6) with the return in Suffolk 72 hours later on Thursday October 9.
Fricke said: “It’s going to be tough. Ipswich have been a phenomenal team all year, and they’re very good on their home track.
“We are going to have to bring our ‘A’ game, but I think everyone is ready for it.
“We’ve been busy riding in other meetings, and we want to keep ourselves fresh and ready to go for the Final.
“Hopefully we can build a lead at home. You never know how it’s going to turn out, but hopefully the weather holds out for us and we’re looking forward to it.”
Advance tickets for the home leg of the Grand Final are now on sale via leicesterspeedway.com and the club can confirm there will be no increase in admission prices, which are set at regular Premiership levels.
As is traditional, an extended souvenir programme will be produced for the Grand Final and this will be available for £5.
