LEICESTER Lion Cubs go into action for the first time in 2026 when they host Buxton in the first leg of an NDL Challenge at the Hydroscand Arena, Beaumont Park on Sunday (3pm).
The meeting will provide important competitive track time for both teams prior to their league campaigns, and the return fixture is at the Hi-Edge Raceway on April 26.
New skipper Ben Morley makes his Lion Cubs debut along with fellow signings Freddy Hodder and Seth Norman – the latter thankfully unscathed after a spectacular crash at press and practice which resulted in heavy bike damage.
The Lion Cubs will operate rider replacement for Max Perry, who is absent due to a Longtrack commitment, and for the same reason the Bulls are missing Alfie Bowtell who is replaced by Darryl Ritchings.
The visitors are back in the sport for the first time since 2018 under the promotion of former Birmingham boss Laurence Rogers, and they include former Leicester NDL title winner Arran Butcher as well as the experienced Jack Smith as skipper.
The Bulls are yet to complete their line-up for this season with one place remaining, and Leicester have agreed for their opponents to use Alex Spooner as a guest on Sunday, which also moves Luke Harris to reserve.
Lion Cubs manager Jen Crossland said: “I’m very excited. It’s nice to have a new track on board, and it’s good for the lads as well to get some extra laps under their belts.
“We’ll be looking to get a win from our opening match, but we know this Buxton team will present a challenge, and it’s one for us to look forward to.”
Gates open at 1.30pm, with admission £15 for adults and £13 for concessions. Children (12-16) £5 and under-12s £1. Lions season ticket holders can gain admission for £7.
